Air Freight Packaging Tips
Because items are being air freighted, this doesn't mean they will be protected from the rigours of different handling processes that happen during its transportation. It has been estimated that a package can be loaded or reloaded up to 60 times during a usual international freight, so good quality packaging is important.

While planning to package the goods, you should consider the following:

1. Will your goods withstand damage if heavier packages are stacked on the top of yours along the way? Choose strong and secure superficial packaging for your goods.

2. Stabilise your items inside the packaging (use special filling substances, such as expanded polystyrene beads or bubble wrap).

3. Put together the smaller shipments into a larger package or pallet to diminish pressure on separate consignments and avoid small packages getting lost in transit.

4. Check that the usage of packaging substances you use isn’t banned in the destination country. A lot of countries require packaging manufactured from wood to be treated for infestation and marked to this effect.

5. Stuff all fragile goods with packaging substances. If you are transporting breakable goods with unbreakable ones, it is important that you thoroughly stuff the fragile goods. Rough handling is inevitable especially if you don’t make a note regarding the contents of the box.

6. Fill up your box. It is not advisable to ship partially or half filled boxes since they are put on top of another. When this happens, your box can be crushed by heavier boxes on the top of it. The best variant would be to put your package in a smaller box. This way, all the room will be consumed and the goods will be made intact and immovable.

7. Pack perishable items correctly. If you want you package to arrive fresh and edible to the destination, you have to make sure that you put them in the right box before transportation. There are certain regulations that customers should adhere to when they want to freight perishable goods. Study these rules before packing your items.

8. Infectious matters and dangerous goods. The majority of air freight services have strict rules regarding the freight of dangerous chemicals and goods. Some of them do not even accept these types of freight. For companies that agreed to transport such goods, you are required to provide the list of necessary documents that will support the safe transportation of these materials. Prepare these documentations beforehand.
